Don't say the V-word

It's that time of year again when some people get bitter that they're not in a relationship, some people don't care that they're not in a relationship, some people buy flowers and gifts and chocolates and go out for a meal, some people say it's just a holiday invited by greeting card companies...

...And then there are some people, like me, who do not lose their shit over another day.

I do not feel the need to proclaim I'm terribly non-commercial and won't have anything to do with Valentine's Day.

Nor do I feel the need to go out and have a meal in a restaurant, surrounded by other couples, who are all secretly eyeing each other up and wondering who is the most in love in the room.

I will buy The Person a card because it's a nice little thing to do. And indeed I do not need a day to tell him I love him, I tell him every day anyway, but isn't it nice to have an excuse to make a point of it?

We will not be going out for a big romantic meal.

We will be in Hull, having a Chinese takeaway with my Mum and trying desperately to keep our prawn crackers away from this little person...

....And this little person

So whether you choose to mark the day or not, have a good one.

Hey, it's a Friday this year - and all Fridays are exciting regardless of the date so that's got to be a good thing surely?

  2. I like Valentine's Day and Valentine's Day posts about what people do or don't do; or do or don't care about this day, yay. It makes me smile and fills my heart with hope for humankind in a squishy, corny kind of way. Love the heart, I want it stitched onto a ribbon to hang on my door handle.

  3. I totally agree with this. I came up with many tweets that I thought would be funny (that happens a lot and they rarely are) but then thought they would simply be construed as me being bitter about being single this day. And I'm not (mostly?). I do seem to be the only single person around the blogosphere though and I'm not gonna lie, it does get a little tiring.

Happy Friday, Weekend and Lovers Day!

    1. p.s. I was only referring to the V day posts being tiresome, not all relationships ever. I thought that clarification was important! I enjoy reading about boyfs and relationships on blogs; it's my way of being legitimately nosey!

  4. I'm having a Chinese and a bottle of wine with my friends. Can't think of a better way to spend my time this evening. Told my boyfriend that I love him but I do that most days, nothing special about today.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  5. We're having pizza take out, we don't do the cards, flower things because that just isn't us and all. The thing that bothers me most about the day is that people don't know the real history behind the date and that it's not actually a day to commemorate love but historically a date to remember early Christian martyrs named Valentine.

  7. A woman at work said to me yesterday "I got a lovely bunch of flowers from my husband this morning. He's really inconsiderate the rest of the year but always makes an effort on valentines". WTF?

  8. I've always been a Valentine cynic and will continue to be so, despite now being in a happy relationship... but I did celebrate it to SOME extent this year. That being said, I tell my boyfriend I love him (and he tells me the same) several times a day anyway so Valentines isn't any better a day than any other still. :-) Hope you had a nice day!

  9. I have to say, I do like Valentine's Day although we didn't do anything this year, we spent it with family instead!
